PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS
- Lead times have reduced from 22 weeks to 18 weeks.
- Allocation of laminate material remains in place, based on historical procurement levels. Any upside requirement is at the full lead time. Slightly reduced lead time material is available but at a premium cost.
- To meet strong demand for high-speed/frequency CCL for high-end server applications, Taiwan’s Iteqis set to launch a new expansion project at its plant site in Jiangxi, China, with an additional monthly capacity of 300,000 pieces to come online in both the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2022.
- Elite Material will also commercialize an additional capacity of 300,000 pieces per month each at its China plants in Huangshiand Kunshan to satisfy ever-increasing demand for HPC, AI server and 400G switch applications.
- China’s CCL maker ShengyiTechnology is also scheduled to install new high-performance equipment at its production lines in 1H’22.
- Conventional PCB suppliers are at 90 – 95% capacity, continuing upside demands with short lead time are contributing to the extended lead times.
- 2021 should end with PCB industry growth of 22.6% over 2020, driven by the economic recovery. The PCB segments, package substrates, high layer count multilayer, HDI are all growing above the average.
- PCB segments and all regions are expected to have performed well in 2021.
- Internet of Things (IOT) and 5G networking is and will generate more demand on HDI technology PCB’s, with smarter and connected devices being continually developed.
- Dupont has entered definitive agreement to acquire Rogers Corporation as of November 2, 2021. The acquisition will expand DuPont’s leadership position in advanced materials for high-growth secular end markets, including electric vehicles, ADAS, 5G telecommunications and clean energy.
- Pricing is expected to rise due to the continuous increase of material cost and capacity constraints. Previous laminate price increases impacted PCB costs by more than 35% and suppliers are continuing to pass this increase through to customers. Expectations are price increases will remain through Q1’22.
- Laminate manufacturers have increased pricing on numerous occasions since October 2020, with the latest increase happening in November 2021. The cumulative increase has exceeded 85%, however we are starting to see it slowing down when compared to previous months.
