Q2 2025 | APRIL - JUNE

Overview and Impact of the Renesas Factory Fire

April 5, 2021

Renesas Electronics Corporation held a press conference on March 30 to provide an update on the recovery progress of the March 19 fab re that occurred at the N3 Building (300mm line) of Renesas’s Naka Factory.

Recovery Progress and Plan

  • The beam reinforcement within the cleanroom was completed on March 29 (a two-week job completed in three days). Procurement of cleanroom materials and soot clearing is in progress and on track.
  • The cleanroom is expected to be recovered by mid-April. Approximately three-quarters of the WIP products being manufactured in the N3 Building were found undamaged and can be turned into finished products.
  • Inspections on 90% of the manufacturing equipment inside the first floor of the N3 building was completed. 12 additional units of equipment were found to be damaged bringing the total to 23 damaged pieces of equipment.
  • Out of the 23 damaged equipment, 11 units (approximately half) can be replaced within April. Some equipment may not be procured until after June.
  • Renesas are in discussions with equipment manufacturers to procure the equipment at an earlier date where possible.

  • Renesas aims to recover the cleanroom by mid-April and resume production in a month for certain part numbers.
  • Product shipment using the remaining WIP can happen 60 days after the fire if the necessary equipment is replaced within April.
  • Renesas expects to return to full production 100 days after the fire if all necessary equipment is replaced within April.

We continue to be in close communication with Renesas to identify areas of risk and will recommend action items to affected Business Units.

The confirmed impacted part list, by MPN, will be available shortly.
