Fire Incident at Panasonic Chitose Site and Impact on Production
On March 9, 2025, a fire occurred at the Panasonic Industry Co., Ltd. Chitose site in Hokkaido, Japan. The fire primarily affected Building 5, with reported damage to the 1st and 2nd floors. No casualties have been reported.
An investigation is currently underway, and production has been temporarily halted for the following products:
- Chip Multilayer Varistors (MPN Prefix: EZJ)
- SMD Type HF Series Varistors (MPN Prefix: ERTJ)
- NTC Chip Thermistors (MPN Prefix: ERZHF)
Panasonic is in the process of evaluating the full extent of the damages and is working on a recovery plan. The fire has impacted equipment used in the Sintering process, which is a key manufacturing process, and hindered operations at the Final Assembly and Quality Inspection stations.
Actions Required:
- Review Impacted Parts: Please review the affected parts and collaborate closely with Panasonic to ensure your business’s critical needs are being prioritized.
- Explore Market Alternatives: If Panasonic is unable to meet short-term demand, it is recommended to explore open market stocks for either Panasonic components or alternative approved suppliers (AMLs).
- Consider Alternate Sources: If the above actions are unable to meet our requirements, work with your customers to approve an alternate source. Additionally, discuss with the Global Commodity Managers to explore potential solutions to alleviate the current supply challenge.
